Scrap Tire Collection Dates & Times

Old, used tires can be recycled. Recycled tires can be used for:

Tire-derived fuel
Rubberized Asphalt
Floor Surfaces
Outdoor Surfaces
Railroad Ties

RESIDENTS:

The easiest and simplest way to dispose of old tires is to recycle them with the tire dealer when you buy new tires.

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District does NOT accept old tires for recycling at either the Trumbull Collection Facility or the Geauga Collection Facility. Instead, the District offers funding to every community within the District to host a tire collection for their residents.

If you are a Geauga or Trumbull County resident and have old tires you need to dispose of, you can take them to your community’s collection (if they offer one) during the year. Note: You must be a resident of that community to participate in their collection. Most communities have short windows for collection and limit the types and number of tires they will accept from any single resident. Each community’s government decides when, where, and how many tires they will accept in their collections. Contact them for more information. Click on one of the links below to find your community’s collection day(s), check their acceptance rules and then mark your calendar.

If you miss your community’s free collection days, you can take scrap tires to almost any reputable tire dealer and they will dispose of them for a fee. Check with a local tire sales dealer in your neighborhood for fees and limits.

BUSINESSES:

Businesses MUST contact a licensed Scrap Tire Transporter for proper disposal (see list below). It is a FELONY to turn over tires for disposal to a person/company without a Scrap Tire Transporter license. A legitimate Scrap Tire Transporter will have an official notarized certificate issued by the Ohio EPA in every vehicle they use, and starting in July 2024, an official decal on the windshield. If the company your business uses does not have this official certification, both your company and the person/company you pay to dispose of the tires can be charged.
