Solar Eclipse Glasses

We anticipate tens of thousands of solar eclipse glasses will be used on Monday, April 8th. They are NOT recyclable in your drop-off or curbside recycling bins! Help us reuse or recycle them!

The Geauga-Trumbull Solid Waste District is collaborating with Trumbull County Tourism, local public libraries, and MANY eclipse viewing locations to offer reuse and recycling options for your solar eclipse glasses.

Look for specially labeled recycling boxes at viewing locations throughout Geauga and Trumbull Counties.

Collected glasses will be vetted for quality and then sent to Astronomers Without Borders for reuse at future solar eclipse events worldwide.

Due to the mixed material nature of eclipse glasses (cardstock and solar film), solar eclipse glasses are not recyclable in community drop-off or curbside recycling bins. We will check all collected glasses then send them to Astronomers Without Borders for reuse at future solar eclipse events around the world. Read more about the Astronomers Without Borders program here:

Eclipse glasses not taken to a special drop-off can be stored for future reuse or placed in the trash for proper disposal.
