Paper Shredding/Document Destruction Events
Each year, the District offers FREE paper shredding events at each of our two collection facilities. Paper shredding is an effective way to protect confidential information, such as personal or financial data, from falling into the wrong hands. Shredding sensitive documents can help prevent identity theft, fraud, and other types of financial crimes.
Our “Shred Days” are typically held shortly after tax season, on Saturdays at the end of April and beginning of May. We will be using Protect-N-Shred (NAID certified) for document destruction in 2024.
Common questions:
- Paper clips, staples, binder clips, rubber bands and file folders do not need to be removed from boxes, while heavier plastics such as CDs, floppy disks and 3-ring binders, glass, electronics, metals, and audio/visual items will not be accepted.
- We will have staff available to unload items, so you will not need to get out of your vehicle.
- The events will be held RAIN or SHINE!
- These events are for CONFIDENTIAL/PERSONAL papers. Boxes of paperback books, catalogs and other generic bulk papers will NOT be accepted.
- The longest wait times are when we first open at 9:00 am. Residents typically start lining up at 8:00 am or earlier and it takes about 30-45 minutes to get through the accumulated line. After the first big line is gone, wait times are generally 10-15 minutes, if not less.
- Residents are limited to 4 boxes/bags per vehicle each time through the line. Typical boxes are copier paper-sized and must weigh less than 40 lbs. to allow for easy unloading.
- If you want your boxes/containers back, just tell the attendants when it’s your turn to be unloaded.
